Comping Secures EU Funding for PANDORA, a New Predictive Fault Detection Project

Comping has been awarded EU funding to develop PANDORA, a research and development project focused on predictive fault detection for the electricity distribution grid.

The project addresses a long-standing blind spot: secondary transformer stations, the points where medium voltage steps down for delivery to homes and businesses, are among the least monitored parts of the grid. PANDORA combines standard sensor data with high-precision dPMU measurements and explainable AI models to flag equipment issues before they cause an outage, giving operators a way to act on early warning signs instead of finding out after the fact.

PANDORA is being developed as a new module within Thaora, extending the platform's distribution intelligence capabilities.

The project is valued at EUR 2,827,715.31, with EUR 1,936,280.86 co-financed by the European Union through the Competitiveness and Cohesion Programme 2021–2027, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It's being developed in partnership with the University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing and Radio-Moto, and will run through January 2029.
